CST438: Software Engineering, Week 1
Week 1
What did you expect a course in Software Engineering would cover? After completing week 1, how has your opinion changed?
Going into this course, I honestly wasn't entirely sure what to expect from Software Engineering. I figured we would be building on what we've learned in previous programming courses, with perhaps more of a focus on developing larger projects while working within a team.
After completing the first week, I'm starting to get a better idea of what software engineering actually involves. The Software Engineering at Google reading made me realize there's a whole lot more to consider than just writing code that works, especially when it comes to maintaining software over time and making updates without breaking things (hopefully). I wasn't expecting to hop right into Spring Boot and REST APIs. Getting everything set up was a little frustrating, and I spent quite a bit of time troubleshooting errors, but I did feel like I learned a lot in the process. I am appreciative of the walk-through videos. I find myself replaying sections over and over again to figure out where I went wrong in my code.
